Deletes .Info Domains from RGP — Afilias Accidentally
Registry for .info takes back domains mistakenly dropped.
.Info registry Afilias accidentally deleted some of the domain names that were in the redemption grace period this past weekend. Some of the domains were snapped up by fresh registrants and from backorders, but those people had the domains rescinded.
Afilias released the following statement to Reglike:
“This weekend a limited number of names were inadvertantly released from RGP. Afilias has rescinded any names incorrectly registered as a result of this in accordance with its RRA. Those names will reenter RGP and be available for reclaim or registration following the normal RGP process.”
A Reglike reader tipped me off to the problem following he received a disturbing e-mail from Wild West Domains client service:
Dear Registrant:
Following this weekend’s maintenance, an error in fresh code introduced to
the registry afflicted a limited impact on the registry related to names in
the Redemption Grace Period. The .INFO registry is functional still, and
you are able to register fresh names normally.A number of .INFO domains were released incorrectly. Our
records indicate that you have registered one or more of these names.———-.INFO
If you have any questions or concerns please email or call support.
While unfortunate for those that snapped up the mistakenly dropped domains, .info did what it had to given the circumstances. I haven’t heard of instances like this when a domain was dropped by the registry and then taken back, but feel free to comment if you know of anything.
