HQ to United States — Afilias moves

Tax law changes influence decision to move headquarters to U.S.

Domain name registry Afilias has made the United States its legal headquarters, moving it from Ireland.

The firm created a fresh Delaware firm, Afilias, Inc. and made its previous parent firm, Afilias plc, a subsidiary of the Delaware firm.

Afilias was one of many domain name firms that set up operations in Ireland, ostensibly to take advantage of favorable tax policies. With the recent change in U.S. tax laws, the benefits of running a headquarters through Ireland are not as great.

Nothing ought to change day-to-day. The U.S. headquarters, which by now existed, is in the Philadelphia suburb of Horsham, Pennsylvania.
