600k domains as handoff nears — .Ai approaches

.Ai namespace continues to grow quickly.

If you listened to this year’s predictions podcast, you heard many people talk regarding artificial intelligence. One of the biggest beneficiaries of AI in Anguilla, which lucked into having the .ai country code domain.

The registry that manages .ai just updated its statistics: as of today, there are 598,007 registered .ai domain names, an increase of over 25,000 since November 27.

Later this month, domain name registry Identity Digital will take over management of the top level domain in a partnership with Anguilla.

There are many upsides to this registry transition, counting more standardized policies and greater availability. Identity Digital has existing partnerships with domain registrars to sell nearly 300 top level domain names.

One downside to the transition, still, is that the registry might cease publishing statistics.
