California Ecommerce Firm Agrees to Stop Using UK Domain Names

FTC stated firm tried to dupe UK consumers into thinking it was a UK firm.

California online retailer “Balls of Kryptonite” has agreed to stop using .uk domain names as part of a deal with the Federal Trade Commission, as stated by a story in MediaPost.

The FTC stated the firm used domain names like bestpricedbrands.co.uk and bitesizedeals.co.uk, listed prices in pounds, and stated orders shipped via Royal Mail.

Why the ruse? Apparently to make clients think their purchases were covered by UK consumer protection laws that have liberal return policies.

The complaints likely stemmed from another issue: the firm apparently irked a lot of clients by sending products that didn’t match the descriptions or had US power adapters.
