Base increases just 0.68 million in second quarter — .Com/.Net domain
Base barely budges but beats Verisign’s expecations.
Verisign (VRSN), the registry for .com and .net domain names, released results following the closing bell today.
The base of registered domains in .com and .net barely budged, increasing 0.68 million during the quarter. But this is above Verisign’s forecast of 0.0 to 0.4 million growth. It predicted slow growth since of a lot of domain names registered by Chinese domain investors a year ago that it thought would not be renewed.
Verisign also beat last quarter’s forecast of domain base growth, so the firm seems to be conservative with its estimates.
There were 9.2 million fresh .com/.net registrations during the quarter.
