Domain name investment firm Mira Holdings, Inc., has filed a lawsuit (pdf) in federal district court to stay an adverse UDRP decision.

On February 28, a Forum panel ruled that the domain name orcid.com ought to be transferred to Orcid, Inc. Orcid is a nonprofit that provides unique identifiers for researchers.

Mira Holdings purchased the domain for $6,312 in an expired domain auction on NameJet in 2022. This was following Orcid existed and had trademark rights, although the domain was originally registered in 2001.

Panelist Nicholas J.T. Smith reviewed a number of previous UDRPs filed against Mira and concluded that this case was most similar to one involving bowtex.com. He ruled that it was a coined term and that Mira Holdings ought to have researched it ahead of buying the domain.

Mira Holdings also sued in the Bowtex case. It settled the lawsuit earlier this month and will retain the domain name.
