$5 million in “orders and commitments” — Donuts tops

Fresh TLD firm notes metrics as it gets ready for general availability later this stretch.

DonutsFresh top level domain name “mega registry” Donuts states it has topped $5 million in “orders and commitments” for its services so far.

Seven of Donuts fresh top level domain names exited sunrise yesterday. Next up they’ll go into the “Early Access Program” and then general availability by January 29.

It has another 40 domain names right now in sunrise.

Given the relatively modest number of marks right now in the Trademark Clearinghouse (a requirement for placing a sunrise order), I suspect a significant portion of the $5 million number comes from Donuts’ Domains Protected Marks List. This service blocks a domain across all of Donuts’ TLDs and costs regarding $3,000 retail for a five year subscription. Donuts will get the money upfront for five years worth of services.

Also, the “commitments” language in the number suggests it may also include numbers coming in for paid pre-registrations.
