Equifax registers domains for fresh credit locking services
Firm that exposed personal data gears up for fresh credit protection products.
Equifax, the firm that handed your personal credit data to hackers, has registered at least 100 fresh domain names related to credit locking services the firm plans to offer.
On its website, Equifax promises a fresh “Lock & Alert” service that will launch at the end of this month. The firm’s domain registrations give more insight into what it plans to offer.
Its Lock & Alert service will be free for life, the firm promises. But I suspect it will be somewhat like Transunion’s credit lock service: the goal is to eventually extract more money from you for additional services.
Consider domains like equifax2bureaulock.com and equifax3bureaulock.com that suggest you’ll be able to order a credit lock at all three bureaus through Equifax.
The firm also registered domains for comparing credit locks vs. credit freezes, e.g. equifaxfreezeversuslock.com. Perhaps the firm wants to offer the free freeze service so that it can charge again for its locking service.
