Gambling domains out-of-favor
The U.S. is cracking down on internet gambling, causing the value of gambling domains to drop.
A number of domainers have been selling off their portfolios of gambling domains over the past few months.
First, some advertising feeds dropped support for gambling domains. Many major advertising services, like Google, by now do not promote gambling. Second, the U.S. government is cracking down on internet gambling. Internet gambling has long been a questionable area in the United States. Many internet casinos count the U.S. as its biggest market. In July U.S. authorities arrested a key player in a British gambling firm, David Carruthers, while he was on a layover in the U.S. Just the prior week Congress approved a bill that would ban banks and credit card firms from making payments to online gambling sites. Most major banks and credit card firms have previously had a practice of not sending payments to online casinos, but this will be the nail in the coffin.
It will be interesting to see how these developments affect the value of internet gambling domains. But all signs point to a massive drop in the value of these domains.
