ICANN Board approves fresh TLD registry agreement

Board approves agreement that will govern fresh top level domain operators.

The Fresh gTLD Program Committee of the ICANN Board of Directors has approved the registry agreement that will be signed by most fresh TLD operators.

The 93 page agreement governs how top level domain operators must manage their namespaces, fees they’ll pay ICANN, and under what conditions ICANN can terminate the registry relationship.

Not all registry operators will be pleased with the agreement, although others are willing to accept it to make sure the fresh top level domain program pushes forward.

ICANN’s press release regarding the registry agreement lists four “key points” regarding the contract, all of which have to do with protections for trademark holders.

With the registry agreement firmed up, attention will now fully shift to resolving Governmental Advisory Committees advice.
