ICANN names fresh President and CEO

ICANN’s board selects the organization’s next leader.

ICANN disclosed today the hiring of Kurt Erik “Kurtis” Lindqvist as its fresh president and CEO, effective December 5.

Lindqvist has served as CEO of the London Internet Exchange (LINX) since 2019. Previous experience includes serving as CEO of Netnod and advising governments on internet governance, data retention, and broadband policy.

Lindqvist has served on the Internet Architecture Board and as working group chair in RIPE and the Internet Engineering Task Force.

ICANN’s search culminated in a short list of seven individuals. The organization pointed out that three of the seven were women. All were interviewed by the CEO search committee, and then the board interviewed two of the three finalists.

The Board’s decision was unanimous.

Lindqvist is right now based in London but will be based in ICANN’s Geneva office.

Interim CEO Sally Costerton will continue to serve as Interim President and CEO until Lindqvist takes over in December.
