.Gay domain would spread hatred: Iran

Republic of Iran wants to stop .gay top level domain.

The government of Iran has filed an early late warning to applicants for the .gay top level domain name.

Iran thinks that a .gay top level domain will “spread of hatred and hostility in the society”. And it doesn’t think that’s an ironic statement.

It further states:

We believe that the right approach in fresh gTLD program ought to be based on creation of healthy environment in all the societies. Thus for public health, using of such fresh gTLDs ought to be managed in a way that keeps the sensitive communities safe from their harms.

So the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran would like to express its serious concern on the applied for TLD, asking ICANN to not to approve the applied for TLD unless the applicant modifies its rules and regulations in a clear way to prevent the registrations under the applied for TLD in the countries with serious concerns.

It’s interesting that the government proposes block registrations from its citizens (and apparently those of other Islamic countries, although none of them have filed objections as of yet).

Man, I hope the government of Iran hasn’t seen what second level domain names you’re by now allowed to register.
