Group chooses its final TLDs, swapping 19 — Link Freedom

Firm replaces 19 of its proposed strings.

Well, that was quick.

Less than 24 hours following ICANN revealed which top level domains firms applied for, Link Freedom Group has decided which strings it will continue to pursue.

The second-largest applicant is still applying for 158 domains, but it has swapped in some replacement strings.

Based on an email of final strings sent by the firm, I count 19 primary strings it abandoned in favor of replacement strings (the number in parentheses is the number of firms it would have to fight to win the domain):

Dropped .official (7), subbed .vvv
Dropped .pod (7), subbed .hard
Dropped .firm (6), subbed .enter
Dropped .therapy (6), subbed .fight
Dropped .mart (5), subbed .ttt
Dropped .air (4), subbed .use
Dropped .merch (4), subbed .what
Dropped .sys (4), subbed .tree
Dropped .cart (3), subbed .pump
Dropped .factory (3), subbed .slop

Firms could move to their replacement string only if no other firm chose it as a primary or replacement string.

This disqualified some of the firm’s replacement strings. For example, it had .fart as a replacement string, but another firm applied for it as a primary string. This meant LFG couldn’t switch to its .fart application.

Knowing that LFG backed out of some strings could help other applicants with their decisions.
