And you won’t believe the prices: Major League Baseball and Miami Heat make domain purchases
NBA team with team salary of $88 million buys a domain for $1,358.
The prior week’s end user domain sales note is a week late since I was traveling this stretch.
Two sports domains traded hands this stretch at stunningly low prices given who the buyers were. Major League Baseball paid just $900 for TopOfTheOrder.com and while the Miami Heat paid just $1,358 for TheHeatStore.com.
TheHeatStore.com isn’t a great domain, so it wasn’t necessarily worth more. It’s possible a heating and cooling firm would have bought it. But would they have paid more than the Heat? I’m not sure.
As for TopOfTheOrder.com, I could see a handful of gaming firms paying well more than $900 for it.
Would MLB have paid more? Probably. But that doesn’t necessarily mean the domain is worth more on the open market.
On another note, when it comes to potential buyers for your domains and how much they’re worth, I’d pay close attention to which ccTLDs of your second level domain are registered. Most people and appraisal algorithms consider if .net and .org domains are registered. But I keep seeing .com domains sell to the holder of the equivalent .co.uk, .com.au, and .ca domain. I’d pay close attention ahead of selling a domain.
