Name Auctions to Last a Loooong Time — .Me Domain

Bids in final 24 hours extend auctions by 24 hours.
I haven’t been paying much attention to the .me domain name auctions, but Michael Berkens has. Some of the domains are being bid up rather high, counting Insure.me (135 bids, $26,130), Hug.me (74 bids, $13,016), Secure.me (93 bids, $7,540) and Portland.me (230 bids, $6,151).
When will the auctions end? It could be a very, very long time ahead of we find out. You see, the .me auctions get extended if there are last minute bids. If by last minute you mean “last 1,440 minutes”. That’s right. If any bids are placed in the final 24 hours the auctions get extended by another 24 hours.
Apparently “the reason the time was set to extend for 24 hours is to give a fair chance to all bidders as this auction is open world wide,” a service rep wrote to me.
Most domain auction services extended time by a few minutes if there are last second bids, but 24 hours? Wow. I wonder what’s more likely to happen: a bidder drops out of an auction since the price gets to high or since he gets tired of logging in every frickin’ day to place a bid.
If you have dropped out, congratulations on not wasting your money.
