Registry redacts Whois data across namespace — Nigeria’s domain

Whois privacy was implemented for all domain names today.

Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NiRA), the registry that manages Nigeria’s .ng country code domain, implemented Whois privacy on all .ng domain names today.
Previously, Whois for .ng domains included details regarding registrants, counting names, physical addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses.
Starting today, Whois lookups only show “Redacted for Privacy” for these fields.
The redaction will be managed at the registry level, ensuring compliance with the provisions of Nigeria’s Data Protection Act and reinforcing NiRA’s partnership with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.
NiRA has implemented a structured mechanism to support lawful inquiries, counting from law enforcement agencies, through a registrar-facilitated process.
While Whois privacy is standard across most top level domain names these days, country code domain name operators sometimes forbid it. For example, the United States still forbids registrants of its .us domain from using Whois privacy and proxy services.
