A firm by now familiar with the potency of premium domain names has secured another for its next venture.

Placement, founded in 2019, is a firm with an ambitious plan to unlock human potential. Led by co-founder Sean Linehan, Placement initially focused on helping users to land jobs through access to career coaches and exclusive resources, but it has branched out into the broader categories of leadership and life coaching.

The firm, which upgraded from Placement.co to Placement.com shortly following it launched, has started developing a fresh brand on another sought-following domain, Exec.com.

Exec, short for executive, has been adopted as a brand name for Placement’s professional development platform, targeting firms looking to help their employees expand their professional skills. Placement, meanwhile, will focus on individual development.

Linehan confirmed in an email that Exec.com was the home of Placement’s B2B service, with the platform very much in its early days.

As stated by archival records, Exec.com was previously listed on the Venture marketplace, a platform that focuses on leasing domain names rather than selling them outright. The platform, founded by legendary investor Kevin Ham, is filled with hundreds of premium domain names available for a rolling monthly fee.

A 2021 capture of Exec.com lists the domain as being available for $3,600 per month, although specific details of Placement’s ownership and usage of Exec.com are right now unknown. Whois history shows that the domain moved away from Venture’s nameservers in late 2021 and switched from Uniregistry to GoDaddy in mid-2022.

Linehan’s positive experience with the Placement.com domain may have influenced the firm’s decision to secure another leading domain name for its next venture. In a 2021 interview with me for the MediaOptions blog, Linehan noted his reasons for initially acquiring the Placement.com domain, saying,

“I think it’s easier to establish trust with clients. Our name proves that we are a serious firm with serious resources.”

Any advantage you can get when launching a fresh product or service can be hugely beneficial. In the digital realm, domain names can and do make a difference in the success of young brands. Placement will be betting that Exec.com helps to establish its B2B service quickly.
