Louisiana firm sells Plants.com to 1-800-Flowers for $450,000

Stokes Tropicals cashes in on domain name.

A Louisiana firm has sold the domain name Plants.com to 1-800-Flowers(NASDAQ: FLWS) for $450,000.

Sedo domain name broker Dave Evanson disclosed the sale this morning on social media:

Stokes Tropicals Garden Center is the last listed firm in Whois records ahead of changing to 1-800-Flowers. It was likely the original 1995 registrant of the domain name. The firm has a Facebook page showing its garden center in Louisiana.

I imagine for a local garden center it made sense to sell this domain for $450,000. It also made sense for a national giant like 1-800-Flowers to buy it. 1-800-Flowers has an entire section dedicated to plants.
