Sedo touts Direct Auction successes
Top Direct Auction sale so far is $26,500.
Sedo launched a fresh feature called Direct Auctions at the end of April, allowing anyone to start an auction for a $59 fee. 150 orders for Direct Auctions were placed on the first day.
So, how is it going? Sedo has released a few highlighted auction results that were started with the Direct Auctions option:
8255.com $26,500 USD
mexico.tv $9,000 USD
blumenversand.com (flower delivery) €4,200
p-k.com $3,900 USD
434.net €3,452
These are good results. Of course, the key question, and the question that will determine the success of the Direct Auctions feature, is what the sell-through rates look like. Sedo hasn’t released this data.
I suspect early sell-through rates were quite low. As I explained when the service debuted, I think sales success will be self-correcting. People will learn which types of domain names are liquid and can be sold through the service, and will eventually let the $59 fee guide their decision on which domains to submit and at what reserves.
