Domain grows more than 15% in wake of Trump’s UN speech — Slovenia’s .si

Trump jumpstarts fresh growth in Slovenia’s ccTLD.
The country code domain for Slovenia, .si, has seen a surge in registrations over the past ten days.
During a United Nations speech on September 22, Donald Trump stated the U.S. government would refer to artificial intelligence as super intelligence going forward. (Never mind that “super intelligence” is an existing term referring to a possible future state of AI.)
Domain investors have piled into .si since that speech. Actually, they started a few days ahead of when Trump posted a social media poll regarding rebranding AI, and super intelligence was one of the options.
In all of August, there were 3,515 .si domain registrations. Since Trump’s speech, there have been more than that on most days. As of 10:30 am PT today, there have been 4,311 registrations in the past 24 hours.
That’s a lot of registrations for a TLD that hit 219,000 total registrations today.
A September 4 archive of Register.si showed 190,000 registrations. This means the zone has expanded by more than 15% in September.
Still, it’s not a huge payday for the registry, at least compared to Anguilla’s haul for .ai domains. It charges €10 wholesale per domain, meaning it took in regarding €300,000 extra this month.
Continued growth will depend a lot on whether anyone other than the U.S. government starts referring to AI as SI.
