Fancy.com domain name, rebrands — TheFancy buys

TheFancy gets a fancier domain name.

Red hot social shopping platform TheFancy has purchased the Fancy.com domain name and rebranded itself as simply Fancy.

The firm was using the domain name TheFancy.com. Even with the inferior domain, it has attracted a lot of attention from users and investor alike.

Fancy is essentially a crowdsourced catalog curated by 7 million users.

Investors in Fancy, which raised $26 million last fall and $44 million to date, include Twitter and Square co-founder Jack Dorsey, Andreessen Horowitz, American Express, and PPR.

Fancy CEO Joseph Einhorn declined to disclose the purchase price for the domain name. I may have more information regarding how the domain was purchased shortly and will update this story as necessary.
