Hillary4McCain.com? DomainTools To the Rescue — Who Owns

A bit of research turns up a probable registrant of Hillary4McCain.com.

I read a story on Wired.com today regarding the domain name Hillary4Mccain.com, which was registered with bogus whois information. The John McCain camp denies having anything to do with the domain.

So who owns the domain? I did a little research on DomainTools, and it leads to one person: Charles Reyna.

Here’s what I did:

1. Looked up Hillary4McCain.com

2. Did a reverse IP search to see the seven other web sites hosted on the same IP

3. Looked up the whois on all 7 domains. A number of had whois privacy, but all of the others are registered by one Charles Reyna of Santa Fe, Fresh Mexico.

Of course it could just be a case of another person hosting his or her sites on the same IP. I tried to call Reyna on the phone number listed in whois, but it’s not a working number. My next step is to file invalid whois complaints on the domains. GoDaddy will suspend the domains if the information isn’t updated. I’ll update this story if I get anywhere.
