Editor’s note: When an expired domain with little apparent value sells for a high price, the buyer is often paying for SEO equity rather than the name itself. After a long break, I’m happy to welcome Sean Markey back to analyze these domains and other SEO topics. Leave a comment if you have questions for Sean.
NameJet and SnapNames recently published their June sales lists. I reviewed them with an SEO perspective, focusing on why certain domains commanded high prices because of their search value rather than pure domain-brand value.
Since these sales occurred several months ago, I can evaluate not only why particular domains sold but also what the buyers have done with them since acquisition. Did the purchase make sense? How was the site rebuilt? Tracking these examples shows common strategies buyers use to extract SEO value from expired domains.
At the end of this piece I include a table of names with measurable SEO value. Some domains, like Cirro.com (which sold for $34,556), appear to have been bought mainly for the brandable name rather than search equity. The more a sale price diverges from perceived name value, the likelier it was purchased for SEO.
Below I dive into the most notable examples from the lists and explain what makes each one interesting from an SEO standpoint.
ComicShopLocator.com — sold for $24,001 at SnapNames

This sale makes sense. Domain Rating (DR) remains stable, indicating the backlink profile was preserved, yet organic traffic climbed from about 450 to roughly 12,000 monthly organic visits. The site has also accumulated a notable AI-driven footprint, with hundreds of recent mentions.

What it used to be:
Originally a comprehensive comic shop directory that also published industry news. In 2025 the parent company, Diamond Comic Distributors, entered bankruptcy, which led to the site going offline in mid-May 2026. It returned online between June 10 and June 20.
What it is now:
The revived site still contains comic-related content but also mixes in anime, esports, and other gaming topics, which can naturally lead into casino-content verticals. Given the buyer profile common on these auctions, the most likely owner is an iGaming affiliate who intends to monetize traffic.
Why it fetched a high price:
- It was a real business with an established brand.
- It ranked for keywords at the time it expired.
- It retained authoritative backlinks.
- The buyer could relaunch the site quickly to capture traffic.
Currently the site reports about 12k/mo organic visitors while SimilarWeb estimates close to 100k monthly visitors across all sources — a solid return for that investment.
FIPA.org — sold for $3,800 at NameJet
This sale surprised me. FIPA used to represent the Foundation for Intelligent Physical Agents, and its backlink profile is packed with highly relevant AI and developer references: Wikipedia, GitHub, Springer, MIT, Stanford, HuggingFace, O’Reilly, and more.
Despite that strong backlink history, the domain sold for only $3.8k and is currently being used as a Norwegian casino page that ranks for no meaningful keywords. While it wasn’t ranking when it expired (which reduced immediate value), the AI-focused referring domains make this a potential asset for an AI-branded project.
My expectation: the domain will likely be used as a redirect or authority boost in an iGaming network, contributing generic authority before being repurposed toward lucrative short-term casino keywords.
SkinTour.com — sold for $3,015 at SnapNames
This domain had about 800 organic visits per month prior to expiration, which justified the purchase. However, organic traffic has not yet recovered. A live version exists, but it appears to be a rough Archive.org rebuild with several technical and trust issues: extremely slow load times, dead social links, an incorrect footer year, and a broken sign-up link.

Someone paid $3k for a domain with a DR of 36 and powerful niche-relevant backlinks from outlets like CNN, Healthline, Allure, and others, yet the rebuild has been poorly executed so far. That’s why technical execution after purchase matters as much as the domain’s link profile.

3dmekanlar.com — sold for $5,001 at NameJet
This Turkish-language site appears to showcase 3D historical locations and was receiving about 4.5k organic visits per month before expiring. The buyer restored the site nearly identically to its previous version, and traffic and AI visibility are increasing. Though the content is outdated, the domain demonstrates how easier competition in non-English markets can make SEO wins more accessible.

In short: someone revived an eight-year-old site, and because the existing signals were intact, the domain continues to perform—proof of why these purchases often pay off.

RallyLights.com and BonnevilleRacing.com — sold for $2,477 and $3,220
RallyLights was an established headlight e-commerce brand dating back to 2001 but now redirects to BonnevilleRacing.com, which itself has been rebuilt as a Thai casino site. BonnevilleRacing previously ranked for niche terms like “salt flat races” and “Bonneville salt flat speed record.” Those organic signals may persist briefly, but they risk fading as the new site serves unrelated and potentially negative signals for Google.

This pattern—authentic brands repurposed into casino or spam networks—is a common outcome for many high-priced expired domains. Fewer buyers attempt faithful rebuilds like ComicShopLocator; most aim to monetize the authority in other verticals.
