Offer could change expired domain names market — Yahoo listing
A story on News.com discusses Yahoo’s fresh free web page offering to local businesses. The free web page also comes with a listing in Yahoo’s local directory.
This make sense for Yahoo on a couple fronts. First, they are trying to build their local directory. Second, these local businesses might use Yahoo’s advertising products in the future.
How does this affect the expired domain name market? Right now, people buy expiring domains that are still listed in Yahoo from their previous use. This is worth a lot of money since of the $300 Yahoo listing fee, and the link gives great link popularity. I suspect a number of people will stop placing focus on expired domains in Yahoo and instead try to game the system by signing up for free Yahoo web pages. This assumes, of course, that Yahoo’s local directory gives the same link popularity as its normal directory.
