Of expired domain name sales — 2 weeks
This article covers a 2-week period on either side of Thanksgiving: 19 November – 2 December. For that reason, you’ll see the sales list crammed full to bursting like a ClownCar.com ($662). I was going to jettison everything below $300 to save space, but I figure readers can quite easily scroll past extra information.
GoDaddy’s top expired auction the prior week comes as a bit of a surprise. Whatever its accrued merits for SEO, the 4-word, 23-letter BarnDoorSlidingHardware.com ($10k) sure ain’t a looker! At this stage, the domain hasn’t changed hands; but it may have been bought by the folks at the more attractively named BarnDoorHardware.com, whose equipment isn’t just for barns, it turns out.
Seeing NetDesk.com ($9.4k) next, with its economical 7 letters, is almost a relief! AccentHomes.com ($5.5k) feels quite natural as well, since decor is very much regarding “accents”. Meanwhile, Yucui.com may be regarding accents of another kind, assuming it’s related to the .ORG, which is a Shanghai firm “dedicated to Sino-foreign cooperative education programs” – learning English, etc.
Readers outside the USA may not recognize some of our abbreviations. For instance, NYS-Permits.org ($3.1k) refers to Fresh York State, as opposed to “NYC”. And NCCasa.net ($1k) may be addressing the burgeoning Spanish-speaking population in North Carolina. (“Casa” means house.) Last but not least, someone got a good deal on SDProperty.com ($482) for South Dakota. This was the same week in which Uniregistry released its .PROPERTY domains, making items like that last one or CommercialSpaces.com ($687) doubly interesting.
Worth noting are a couple of domains near the top for the budding marijuana industry: MedicalMarijauanCafe.com ($2k) and MedicalMarijuanaPlants.com ($1.1k). Brillare.com ($1.5k) is Italian for “shine”. LionLamb.org alludes to the Christian saying that “the lamb will lie down with the lion” – which few people realize is actually a Biblical misquote.
But enough trivia … It’s a long list. So I’ll let you get to it:

It’s interesting to see 2 more city “Party Bus” sales. Those have been consistently selling in GoDaddy auctions since June. I doubt many people will recognize Cryptol.com ($128); it’s a “language for specifying cryptographic algorithms”. Basically, it’s for cyber security and code breaking.
HeyStranger.com stands out as a good buy at $255. So does GolfGold.com ($179). Tempting as it is to discuss more domains from that chart, I’ll leave that for you in the comments and move on to NameJet.
If you have ever brainstormed names regarding, say, startups or breakfast cereals, then you have probably tried to register StartSmart.com. Too bad! Well, now that is has been purchased for $6.8k, that domain is unlikely to sell below 5 figures.
It’s impossible not to see the value in WomensGolf.com ($3k) or XmasGift.com ($3k), especially with Christmas just round the corner. There’s also terrific brand value in common phrases like RainOrShine.com ($3.4k), WillDo.com ($2.1k), and GutReaction.com ($508).

Gotta love the rhyme in MyPet.net ($230), don’t you? It’s amusing to see MovieCollector.com ($251) outsold by PornCollection.com ($526) over at GoDaddy. Is anyone surprised?
I am a bit surprised to see WeightTrainning.com ($252) sell as cheaply as it did – and ReadinGlasses.com ($390) for as much as it did. That’s not the only misspelled domain in these charts. Domainers make mistakes following squinting at long lists all day.
Most of us haven’t spoken the word “sedulous” so far in 2014, but the $898 sale of Sedulous.com shows that there’s still value in rare words. And in coinages like LifeStylers.com ($520). And, of course, in concrete, real-world stuff like a DanceMat.com ($1.3k) or a SkiCondo.com ($898).
If you really want to make money, though, auction off your child at BabySales.com ($871).
