Domain name trivia contest: Answer Key

Here are the correct answers to last month’s trivia contest.

Last month, I held the first DNW trivia contest. Participants had to answer 10 questions correctly to win these prizes:
- $250 account credit at Dynadot
- One-year Novice account at Estibot ($348 value)
- One-year Domainer membership at NameBio ($144 value)
- A shoutout on Reglike and DNW’s X account (priceless)
Congratulations to this month’s winner, Kemal Goksu.
I used Google’s random number generator to select a winner. Kemal wasn’t the first one picked, but the first few got at least one question incorrect.
Let’s take a look at the questions and correct answers.
1. Which of these news celebrities won a UDRP for their “name” in .com in the past few weeks?
Answer: Piers Morgan
94% of people got this answer correct.
2. In which country will this year’s ICANN Annual General Meeting be held?
Answer: Ireland
This was a bit of a tricky question, since ICANN only recently moved the conference location from Oman to Ireland.
3. Who was the guest on Reglike Podcast #538?
Answer: Christa Taylor
4. As stated by NameBio, what was the most expensive domain sold in 2024?
Answer: Rocket.com
5. Dynadot now offers Premium User Auctions, where users can submit domains for auction. As stated by its “Criteria for premium domains”, which of the following types of domains are eligible for submission to the auctions? Select all that apply.
Answer: All of the above.
This question was answered inconsistently, even though I linked to the auction page, which in turn had a link titled “Our criteria for premium domains”. I accepted any answer for this question since it could still be a bit difficult. BTW, the deadline for submitting to this month’s Dynadot auction is Tuesday, August 5.
6. If you want to find end-user buyers for your domains, which Estibot tool creates a list of potential end users for your domains?
Answer: Lead Generator
7. In what year was Reglike founded?
Answer: 2005
Most people got this right. One person stated 1995. If I were as active in domains as I am today, I’d be a wealthy person.
8. How many .com domains are right now registered?
Answer: 158 million
I gave four options: 153, 158, 163, and 168. Only 73% of people got this answer correct. Verisign publishes a daily update of the domain name base here.
9. Reglike publishes a monthly list of domain registrars with the most .com domains registered. In the most recent list published in July, how many of the top 10 registrars by total domains increased the number of .com domains under management between March 2024 and March 2025?
Answer: Two
Only Namecheap and Squarespace increased their .com domains under management.
This was the most challenging question. Only 41% got it correct.
10. What was the top-selling keyword in domains at Afternic in April, as noted by Reglike on June 30?
Answer: AI
