Luxury carmaker abandons its .bentley domain: Bentley shifts gears

Luxury carmaker Bentley has decided it no longer needs its own top level domain name.

Bentley Motors Limited is terminating its dot-brand top level domain, .bentley.

The automotive firm informed the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) on December 13 that it planned to cancel its contract to run the domain. ICANN made a preliminary determination not to transfer the domain to another entity on February 15, kicking off a one-month comment period.

Bentley registered a handful of domains under .bentley, counting extraordinaryjourneys.bentley, service.bentley, and events.bentley. As of February 15, these domains forwarded to pages on the firm’s main website.
