Privacy issue when buying/selling a .si domain name — Beware of

The seller can see the buyer’s address when the domain is transferred.

There has been a flood of .si domain sales lately, and domain investors ought to be aware of a major privacy issue.

Following selling a domain, the seller can see the buyer’s address when the buyer transfers the domain to another registrar. I’m not sure if it’s the other way around, too.

The .si registry sends a confirmation email to the seller when the domain is transferred. It states:

Registrar [registrar name] successfully transferred domain name [domain] to a fresh domain name holder.

The confirmation email then provides the fresh holder’s mail and email addresses.

Email addresses are made public in .si Whois, so the email address isn’t the big concern. But be aware that you might be providing a stranger with your home address when you buy a .si domain.

I highly recommend using a P.O. Box or something similar for all of your domain contacts.
