Bido.com Sells Dickinson for $12,000
Bido has sold its most expensive domain to date.
Upstart domain auction house Bido has sold Dickinson.com for $12,000, a record for the site.
Originally billed as a geo-related domain name, Dickinson.com was listed in the “Family names” category on Bido. I don’t think it’s a particularly strong geo domain given the cities in question, so I agree with this move. The final sales price was in line with my expectations.
The auction attracted more attention than the site is used to, causing a brief technical hiccup. Bido e-mailed its clients during the auction:
Due to an overwhelming response, we experienced some minor technical difficulties for approximately two minutes during the auction and have corrected the issue.
If you have not by now done so, please refresh your screen and you will see that the auction is back to running smoothly again.
The winning bidder was “cybertonic”. Unless someone stole its handle, this is Cybertonic, the firm behind sites such as Domaining.com.
Looking forward to the next eight auctions, I’m disappointed to see that only one is not a “house listing”, meaning almost all of the domains are being sold by people affiliated with Bido. Bido needs to start accepting more listings from the domain community in order to garner continued support.
