Boot firm gets Freebird.com domain name through lawsuit

Domain owner didn’t show up to defend the domain name.
The boot firm Freebird Life, which uses the domain freebirdstores.com, just got an inexpensive domain name upgrade: a court has awarded the domain name freebird.com to it.
The firm filed an in rem lawsuit against the domain name in October 2025.
Freebird.com is a very valuable domain with many uses. It’s right now registered in 138 top level domain names.
Still, the plaintiff provided screenshots of parked page ads on the domain for boots and related products, in an effort to show that it was targeted by the registration.
Freebird Life was founded in 2009, and freebird .com was registered in 1997. It’s unclear whether the domain has changed hands since the plaintiff was founded.
Its arguments didn’t matter much; the domain name owner failed to appear in court to defend the domain.
This stretch, the court granted a default judgment and ordered Verisign to transfer the domain name to the boot maker.
