.Com had a banner month

Latest data shows a surge in .com registrations.

ICANN has published the latest data from Verisign (NASDAQ: VRSN) covering the .com namespace. The data covers May 2025.

Here are some takeaways from this month’s data:

• May was a banner month for .com registrations. Registrars have to have regged at least 100k fresh names to make it into the top 10 monthly. I don’t think that’s ever happened ahead of, at least as long as I’ve been analyzing the data.
• Gname has overtaken Turncommerce on the total DUMs list (despite losing names YoY) as the latter continues to shed names, most of which are likely from its own portfolio.
• Namecheap had a huge month, registering over 100k more domains than it did in May a year ago. 55k of the fresh names were at Spaceship.
• Wix might jump into the top 10 overall soon. It had just below 3 million .coms, just slightly below Team Internet Group.

Below is a chart showing the performance of the largest registrars in terms of fresh registrations in May 2025, which are the latest available numbers. Note that the rankings include multiple registrar accreditations within families of registrars. You can see the list of registrars at the end of this post.
