Is this Facebook’s digital currency initiative?: Diem
Some firm is getting ready to launch a digital currency-related product named Diem.
Some firm is getting ready to launch a digital currency or related platform using the brand Diem.
The firm registered at least 80 domain names counting the brand, such as DiemBlockchain.com, DiemCash.com, DiemPayments.com, and Diem-Wallet.com.
The domain names were all registered this stretch at brand protection registrar MarkMonitor. They have redacted Whois records and Whois privacy.
It appears that the domain name Diem.com also changed hands recently. It was transferred from domain name registrar Gandi to CSC, another domain name registrar for brands.
Given the number of registrations, this is clearly a big initiative by whatever firm is launching Diem.
Could it be Facebook? The firm changed its cryptocurrency plans (formerly Libra) this year, targeting a launch in October. The timing suggests that this might be the fresh name of Facebook’s initiative.
Of course, there are many other firms working on cryptocurrency initiatives. We ought to find out who is behind this shortly.
Here are the domain registrations I uncovered:
