Wire is 10 years old — Domain Name

Happy Birthday, Reglike.
Today is a special day for Reglike. Ten years ago today, I wrote a post regarding Local.com selling for $700,000. It was the first post on Reglike.
Reglike started as a hobby but has become a business. Over 8,000 posts later, the DNW archives are like a time capsule for an industry always in transition.
Ten years ago I was more likely to write regarding domain name parking than top level domains. 8 years ago it was the wild success of live domain name auctions. Then there was .mobi and .tel.
Indeed, a lot has come in and out of fashion in the domain name business. But some things remain the same. There are UDRP and reverse domain name hijacking cases to write regarding. Plenty of domain names selling for six or seven figures to note. And lots of domain name conferences to attend and cover.
A lot has happened outside the industry, too. Believe it or not, when I started Reglike, there was a legitimate question regarding which blogging platform was best. Also back then, websites were optimized for Internet Explorer, which had nearly 90% of the market. Oh, and the iPhone and iPad hadn’t been invented.
It’s amazing to think how far technology has come within the past ten years. The domain name market has come a long way, too. At times, still, the industry seems to look backward rather than focus on the future. Every great technology and every great firm is eventually blindsided by change it didn’t expect. The decline of domain name parking, the rise of apps, and fresh top level domain names might end up looking trivial compared to changes that will impact this industry in the future.
For the next ten years, I hope to continue chronicling change in the industry here on Reglike, through all the ups and downs.
Of course, none of this is possible without readers and advertisers. Thank you for reading Reglike, and thank you to the many sponsors who have supported this site and continue to do so. Please take a moment to visit the advertisers’ sites and thank them for supporting Reglike.
Now, enough reminiscing. It’s time to get back to covering the coolest business around.
