ENom asks resellers to watch their clients
Following the Fresh York-based Anti-Defamation League accused eNom of aiding a terrorist organization, eNom has asked its resellers to watch who they do business with.
At the end of July, news broke that the Anti-Defamation League asked US Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson to take action against domain registrar eNom becaues terrorist organization Al-Manar TV registered its domain name at eNom. As I previously wrote, there’s not much a registrar can do regarding this.
Today eNom sent a message to all of its resellers asking them to monitor who they do business with. A look at the Whois record shows the Al-Manar domains were registered through a reseller, but almost all clients of eNom are considered resellers.
Dear eNom Reseller,
As you know, one of the amazing things regarding the Internet is its unique self-governing body called ICANN, which sets the rules by which the domain name system works around the world. ICANN operates under a contract with the US Department of Commerce.
We would like to take this time to remind our valued resellers that as a US-based firm, eNom is committed to abiding by the policies of ICANN, the laws and regulations of the United States of America, and the other local and national jurisdictions in which we do business.
To that end, it is notable to remember that doing business with certain clients is against US law. Please check your client databases to make sure that you are abiding by these notable laws and not doing business with the clients listed in the United States Treasury Specially Designated Nationals List.
You can check the United States Treasury Specially Designated Nationals List at the following location to verify that your client lists are in compliance at: http://www.treasury.gov/offices/enforcement/ofac/sdn/
