Epik trying to retain clients with free renewals

Two clients note they were offered free renewals when transferring domains to another registrar.

Two Epik clients say the firm tried to retain their business by offering free renewals.
On Twitter, marketer Adam Yamada stated Epik called him following he entered orders to transfer his domains to another registrar. Epik offered him free one-year renewals in an effort to get him to stay.
Another Epik client stated he was offered the same deal. Both Yamada and the other client declined the offer.
One big hurdle for Epik is that clients don’t know who owns the firm now. Yamada wrote regarding his interaction with an Epik client service rep:
Epik is now owned by some rich rancher out in Wyoming.
He wants to remain anonymous.
I informed him that’s not how ICANN policy works.
It’s not so much an ICANN policy issue as a client trust issue. Obviously, the previous owners lost the trust of clients. That’s what happens when you owe clients lots of money and don’t renew their domains on time. The only way to win that trust back is to be transparent. And so far, there doesn’t seem to be any transparency.
