GoDaddy states there’s still upside for registrars and domain investors

Most very modest businesses don’t have websites yet, but many plan to create one.

GoDaddy released results from a global survey today, showing that the vast majority of very modest businesses (5 or fewer employees) still don’t have a website.

The survey included 4,000 businesses in Australia, Brazil, Canada, India, Mexico, United Kingdom and the United States.

59% of businesses stated they don’t have a website. The upside: 55% note they intend to create a website in the next two years.

The survey also provides good news for e-commerce platforms and the mobile web. 48% stated they intend to sell goods from their website and 84% stated it’s notable that their fresh website by mobile-friendly.

The research showed that newer businesses are nearly twice as likely to plan to create a website than older businesses (more than three years old).

The data don’t surprise me that much. Many contractors I’ve dealt with still use an @yahoo.com email address. Few have websites, and most with websites haven’t updated them in a while.

As a consumer, I’ll say that having a website certainly matters. I might look for a contractor on Angie’s List, but then I also try to learn more regarding them on their website. If they show recent case studies and information, I’m more inclined to trust them.

GoDaddy’s research is good news for all domain name registrars and domain name sellers, not to mention fresh top level domain name firms. Every firm that starts a website needs a domain name, and growing demand for websites will benefit people who hold the inventory.
