EBay DealMint: Good domain strategy

Service runs on eBayDealMint.com, but eBay bought DealMint.com too.
I’m a bit confused regarding eBay’s fresh DealMint service, but I give the comapny props for locking in the necessary domain names.
eBay switched the DNS on DealMint.com and eBayDealmint.com to its fresh daily deals offering sometime in the past 4-5 weeks.
I can’t find much news regarding the service, but was alerted to a nameserver change on these domains from markmonitor.com to eBay’s DNS.
Even stranger, it looks like a video regarding the service was published seven months ago, yet I can’t find any news articles regarding it. There are a few job listings from eBay for the service as well as some LinkedIn profiles mentioning it.
But DealMint is really interesting.
The service is a go between for retailers and daily deals sites. It allows retailers to make their offers and daily deals sites to bid on how much they’ll charge per sale. This sounds like an interesting idea as deals sites will be pressured on margin (if that hasn’t happened by now).
Historical whois records show that eBay purchased the DealMint.com domain over the summer. Although it just forwards to eBayDealMint.com, I give the firm credit for buying the shorter DealMint.com domain name. It also bought related domain names such as ebay-dealmint.com.
