The metaverse-related domains Meta (Facebook) has registered — Here are

The list is short.

Logo for Meta, previously Facebook, with word Meta and an infinity symbol like an Oculus glasses

The prior week, Facebook disclosed that it rebranded its corporate entity to Meta as it aims to be a key player in metaverse technology. It is not changing the name of its core properties, counting Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp.

The firm purchased Meta.com through an interesting deal. The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative “purchased” a scientific research project called Meta many years ago. Meta (the scientific project) uses meta.org but also used meta.com. Meta (the research project) is being closed next year.

Whenever a firm discloses a rebrand or fresh product, it registers many domains to go along with it. For example, Amazon registered 28 domains for its fresh multi-room Echo audio launch. It registered over 75 domains when it bought naming rights to Seattle’s arena.

Meta appears to be taking a more reserved approach. Perhaps it understands that it can’t own the term meta. Perhaps, like Alphabet, it’s not terribly concerned with protecting it since it’s only a name for the corporate umbrella.

I track Meta’s domain registrations on DomainTools, and only 15 domains related to metaverse have popped up over the past week. Many of them appear to be domains created for internal use. Here’s the list.

fbaidemo.com
fbaidemos.com
internalmetafb.com
internalmetafb.net
internalmt.com
internalmt.net
internmeta.com
internmeta.net
metaaidemo.com
metaaidemos.com
metademolab.com
metainternal.net
fbdemolab.com
metahackathons.net
metaurl.net

For now, it appears Facebook is taking it easy on metaverse-related domains.
