Amazon Echo, but Amazon stocks up on Alexa domain names — It’s the
Even though it’s called the Echo, Amazon also registered Alexa domain names related to fresh device.
Amazon disclosed the Amazon Echo, a sort of home personal assistant similar to Ubi, the prior week.
Although it’s called the Echo, owners can name their device whatever they want. And in a video promoting the Echo that has been seen over a million times, the family called it Alexa. (Alexa is also the name Amazon.com’s web analytics/ranking firm.)
Using this name in the video caused Amazon.com to feel compelled to register a bunch of domains counting “Alexa”. I count dozens of domain names counting Alexa, such as:
- AlexaAnswers.com
- AlexaApps.com
- AlexaHomeAudio.com
- AlexaJokes.com
- AlexaShoppingList.com
- AlexaVoice.com
- AlexaStreaming.com
- AmazonAlexaNews.com
- JustAskAlexa.com
These domains are in addition to dozens of domain names using the term “echo”.
