LA Times Publisher purchases LA.com domain name

Tribune purchases valuable domain name, plans to offer customized email addresses.
Tribune Publishing Firm (NYSE:TPUB), publisher of the L.A. Times, has purchased the valuable domain name LA.com.
The firm has by now created a landing page for the site, which invites visitors to enter their email address to be alerted when the site launches.
You might start seeing @la.com email addresses in use soon. Visitors can provide their mobile phone number for a chance to win a personalized @la.com email address.
The domain name was purchased from MediaNews Group, part of Digital First Media. The firm primarily operates newspapers.
I imagine this was a solid seven-figure sale.
