200,000 domain milestone in Namecheap University program — Namecheap hits

Domain registrar gives free .me domain name and online tools to students.

Domain name registrar Namecheap has hit a big milestone in its Namecheap University program: 200,000 free .Me domain names.

The program offers students and educators a free .me domain name and online tools for one year.

Namecheap launched the initiative in 2014. It is available to all students, teachers, administrators and educators with a .edu email address in North America, the UK and Australia.

The registrar states the program has been integrated into the curriculum of a number of high school and college computer science classes.

This seems like a smart program for Namecheap. Many technology firms (e.g. Apple, Microsoft) offer student discounts as a way to introduce young people to their products and make them lifelong clients.
