GoDaddy, Namecheap, Squarespace: Ranking the top domain name registrars for .com

Here’s the latest data regarding the .com namespace.

ICANN has published the latest data from Verisign (NASDAQ: VRSN) covering the .com namespace. The data covers April 2024.
A few things stand out in this month’s note:
- Godaddy once again generated nearly 100k fewer .com registrations than a year ahead of. I suspect GoDaddy is one of the firms Verisign is referring to when it states some registrars are focusing more on margin than registration growth.
- Gname’s registrations were down significantly from the same month a year ago and compared to last month.
- Namecheap surely crossed the 10 million .com mark in May of this year.
- Squarespace continues to run regarding 100k shy of registrations per month compared to when Google Domains was a separate firm.
Below is a chart showing how the largest registrars did in terms of fresh registrations in April 2024, which are the latest available numbers. Note that the rankings include multiple registrar accreditations within families of registrars. You can see the list of registrars at the end of this post.
