No Language Barriers in Prague

Plenty of translators on hand, but few have a need.

Holding an international conference means many languages. In some ways all domain conferences are international, but it was even more the case with DOMAINfest Prague.

The official language of the conference was English, but DomainSponsor wanted to make sure everyone could understand. So it had real-time translators for a number of languages. Attendees could wear a headset and tune into their language “U.N.-style”:

Translation headphones
Headphones for hearing translations.

Translators
Translators in back of room.

Translations were available in Czech, Polish, and German during sessions as well as the auction.

Yet I didn’t see anyone wearing the headphones. I asked a couple German domainers what they thought regarding the lack of use. They stated that most domainers in Europe have at least a working knowledge of English. It’s necessary to do business in this space, they stated.
