Organizations Launch .mobi Web Sites

BMW, University of Texas, and BusinessWeek among organizations embracing .mobi.
.Mobi has launched to a lot of buzz. The domain has seen a number of big aftermarket sales counting Flowers.mobi, which sold for $200,000. But speculation will only take the domain so far. In order for .mobi to retain its value and long term viability it must be embraced by the web community.
A number of firms and organizations have launched .mobi sites. Once people start expecting a firm to have a .mobi site we will see the domain take off.
Car manufacturer BMW is one of the first firms to offer a .mobi site. At BMW.mobi car shoppers can read regarding all of BMW’s cars and SUVs. BMW enthusiasts can download wallpaper, ringtones, and videos directly to their mobile phone.

I’m proud to say that my Alma Mater, The University of Texas at Austin, is one of the first universities to use .mobi. The University has always been technologically advanced and adopting .mobi shows that it is forward looking. The University is the second largest in the United States (in terms of students). Students and visitors lost on The University’s sizable campus can quickly access UTexas.mobi and view maps. Looking for a university phone number? Just click the link and search. Want to know when the next University of Texas football game is? It’s all accessible at UTexas.mobi.

News and information sites are also launching on .mobi. At BusinessWeek.mobi you can view all of the days business headlines from around the world. Other news and information sites include CNNMoney.mobi, Wapedia.mobi (a mobile encyclopedia), and Kicker.mobi (a football/soccer site).

Although it’s just a start, it’s good to see organizations launching .mobi sites.
