Parent firm of .Co Internet applies for 13 top level domains (here’s the list)
Firm releases names of 13 applications.
This morning Paul Sloan broke the news that STRAAT investments, parent firm of .Co Internet, applied for 13 top level domain names.
The firm just released the list:
.APP
.BOOK
.CORP
.DESIGN
.GMBH
.GROUP
.INC
.LAW
.LLC
.LTD
.MOVIE
.TECH
.WEB
Many — if not all — of these will be in contention with other applicants. Interestingly, the firm believes that auctions won’t be necessary for these domains since all applicants will be “equally motivated to focus their resources on operating the extensions, minimizing risk, and improving the underlying economics.”
STRAAT will work with Neustar as its backend registry provider. Neustar by now provides registry services for .co.
If there’s any firm that understands the current landscape for launching an unrestricted top level domain, it’s this team. They’ve put millions of dollars into marketing .co over the past few years and know what works and what doesn’t. Of course, this time around they’ll be competing against a lot of other fresh extensions.
