Latin American organization TECHO wins .Org of the Year.

Public Interest Registry (PIR), the organization behind .org domains, held its annual .Org Impact Awards ceremony the prior week.

The nonprofit awarded $180,000 to organizations across seven categories.

This year’s big winner was TECHO, an organization working in Latin America’s informal settlements, mobilizing volunteers and communities to overcome poverty through housing, civic engagement, and community-building programs.

TECHO won the Community Building category and was named .Org of the Year. It will receive a $50,000 award.

Six other category winners each won $10,000. Twenty-eight other finalists will receive $2,500.

PIR received over 4,200 applications from 145 countries for this year’s awards.

To date, PIR has awarded over $1 million through the awards.
