Investor connected with it through Whois search — Snapchat’s first
Investor used Whois search to connect the dots.
Snapchat (or just Snap) has filed to go public and its IPO is sure to make its early investors a nice return.
Lightspeed Ventures was the first venture capital firm to invest in the firm. And how the firm was able to track down Snapchat founder Evan Spiegel is kind of interesting: it was based on a Whois search, writes Alyson Shontell of Business Insider.
Lightspeed partner Jeremy Liew didn’t get a response to an email he sent to Snapchat through its website. So he turned to Whois, where he was able to get a firm name. That firm name led Liew to Spiegel, and the rest is history.
Whois certainly has a purpose. Now, if we could just find a way to stop all of this SMS and robocall spam. I can handle the spam email, but this other stuff is getting out of control.
