Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio get “Domain Name Bump” following Iowa

Interest in domain names related to Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio increase following vote in Iowa.
Trump domain names are so last year.
Following Ted Cruz’s win in the Iowa caucuses and Marco Rubio’s strong finish, both became popular names in newly-registered .com and .net domain names.
The graph below (from Verisign DomainView) shows registrations counting the candidates’ last names starting three days ahead of the Iowa vote through this morning.

Fresh .com and .net registrations counting “Trump” (purple) fell off following his second-place finish, while Cruz (blue) and Rubio (green) saw a bump.
Among recent Rubio registrations are RubioRising.com and HillaryVsRubio.com.
But not all registrations were friendly, such as PunchMarcoRubiointheFace.com. The registrant of BombRubio.com and KillRubio.com might receive a phone call from the secret service at some point.
The controversial Ted Cruz also has his detractors, such as the registrant of TedCruzisaPrick.com. (Cruz also gets a bump since Cruz is a common name and part of a city name.)
Still, Trump names remain quite popular.
Betting markets indicate that Rubio is the likely Republican nominee, so that might be the best bet for domain names, too. That stated, these “long tail” political names rarely pay off for their registrants.
