Spaceship’s SellerHub domain sales platform — Testing out

I added a domain to SellerHub today to see how the sales platform works. Here was my experience.
There’s been some buzz regarding SellerHub, a domain sales platform that’s part of Namecheap’s Spaceship domain registrar. Yesterday, the firm disclosed that domains on SellerHub are added to the Namecheap registration path. That’s a big deal, as Namecheap is the second largest domain name registrar.
So I added a domain to SellerHub today to see how the system worked.
First, some of the high-level details:
- SellerHub charges a 5% commission. For comparison, Sav.com charges 4%, Atom charges 7.5%, and GoDaddy charges a minimum of 15%.
- Domains do not need to be at Spaceship or Namecheap to be listed.
- There’s a $100 minimum listing price.
You can add domains by uploading a spreadsheet or entering them manually. I just wanted to test one domain, so I used the manual option.
For each domain, you add the domain, minimum offer, asking price, and whether or not you want to use a sales lander:

Once you add domains, you need to verify them. You can do this by changing the nameservers, adding DNS records to point the domain, or adding a TXT record.
Right now, if you change the nameservers to Spaceship, domains aren’t instantly verified. Nearly all domains are verified within an hour, though. If you add DNS records or the TXT verification record, there is a button to verify the domain.
Regardless, the landing page works as soon as you change the nameservers. Here’s what the landing page looks like:

You can customize the description that shows up below the domain name on the landing page.
Here’s how the listing shows up on Namecheap:

When someone clicks on “Buy now”, it brings them to a page on Spaceship where they can add it to their cart. Buyers need to create a Spaceship account to buy the domain; they can’t check out with their Namecheap account.
It’s great to have another option for selling domains. If anyone has experience selling a domain on Spaceship SellerHub and would like to share their experience with the post-sale process, please comment below.
