TLDH: we’ll sign our first fresh TLD contracts by end of Q1 2014

Fresh TLD applicants still far from generating revenue.

ICANN signed its first registry agreements for fresh top level domains this stretch, but a press release from portfolio applicant Top Level Domain Holdings is a reminder that many fresh TLDs are a long way to fruition.

The release states:

Top Level Domain Holding anticipates contracts will be signed with ICANN for the first nine uncontested domain applications in which it has an interest ahead of the end of Q1 2014, with a further eight ahead of the end of 2014, and the remaining five uncontested applications in which the Firm presently has an interest in the first half of 2015.

Since TLDH is referring to uncontested applications, much of the delay will be due to the prioritization numbers it has for each string. The release refers to ICANN’s plans to sign regarding 20 contracts per week.
